Our Beauty Confessions

We can't be good a everything in the beauty world, right? So we decided to share with you our (secret) beauty confessions!

Lucie's Confessions

1: Liquid Eyeliner
I cannot use liquid eyeliner, at all!I either put on too much, too little, its not even or when I try to correct it, it smudges all over my eye. Ultimate fail.

2: Nail Polish Addict
I used to have the really bad habbit of biting my nails, and I found the only way to stop it was to always have my nails painted. Subsequently I have about 80 nail polishes, and paint my nails every 2 days.

3: Fake Tan Woes
I am so pale, and I wish I could have that golden glow. But after the first time I used fake tan, and it went horribly wrong (hello patchy), I've decided to embrace the pale-ness!

4: The Ultimate Beauty Sin
I probably should admit this, but I am known to often fall asleep with my make up on...I know there's no excuses, but after commuting to work I'm so tired and end up falling asleep. Oops...

Lucy's Confessions

1: Lazy Brows
I really should keep on top of plucking my eyebrows, but I am lazy, so I don't. My sister despairs! She spends a considerable amount of time making them neat, then I just neglect them... sorry sis!

2: Bad with my Brushes
This is something I really need to get a hold on. I KNOW that I should clean my brushes weekly, but no matter how strict I am with other parts of my beauty routine, somehow the brush washing part rarely happens.

3: Batiste is my Best Friend
There was a time when I washed my hair daily, but I discovered that it really wasn't doing my hair that many favours. So I completely shook up my routine and now only wash my hair twice a week. Doesn't it get greasy? You ask. Well, yes it does a little bit, only around my face, (if I looked like a chip pan I would wash it),  so to deal with that I just spray my hair with dry shampoo, until it is white, and then go to bed, in the morning it looks fine!

4: Not Fussed about my Nails
I am one of those people who will leave my nail polish on for as long as possible. My nails chip pretty much instantly, so I can't be bothered to be too precious about it. But I know, once it's got to a certain point, that I should take it off, and by that I mean with remover, not chip it off, (which I am also guilty of doing!).

We've told you ours, so what are your beauty confessions?

Soaps are Back: The Yorkshire Soap Company

Browsing in the Yorkshire Soap Company one day I stumbled across the most adorable soaps shaped like little sheep. How could I resist?
Coming in a variety of scents, lavender, wild rose and marigold to name a few, containing sheep milk, almond oil and shea butter.

I chose a lavender one to use in the evening to help me relax, and I couldn't believe how well it worked after one use. I had a pesky dry patch under my arm, nearly gone! I also use it to shave my legs to give a really smooth finish, and it prevents my skin from drying out and flaking.

(after about 10 uses)

What I love about these soaps is that they are so creamy and moisturising, and they look as if they will last forever! And at only £4.50 each they make really cute gifts as well, especially coming in such pretty packaging. After buying one I went out to get another few for myself and Lucy!

You can find these soaps at the Yorkshire Soap Company shops in either York or Hebden Bridge.

My Current Favourite Scent : The Yorkshire Soap Company

It all started one day when Lucy said 'have you been into the Yorkshire Soap Company?' Nestled away near York minster stands a little gem of a shop where all your soap/body lotion/bath salt/bath bomb (you name it) dreams come true.

In the entrance stands tables full of cake shaped soaps and bath bombs that look good enough to eat! Further in through the shop the walls are lined with shelves containing bath bombs, shower gel, bubble bath and body lotion, split into different scents, with old style basins underneath filled with the co-ordinating bath salts. After a good sniff my instant favourite was No3 Macaroon, a sweet scent with coconut and french vanilla.

Lucy was kind enough to get me the bath bomb for my birthday. After using it I was hooked, and quickly snapped up the body lotion which I've been wearing it ever day since, skipping perfume altogether.
As well as having an amazing smell, it moisturises really well. Containing sweet almond oil it keeps my skin feeling smooth all day.

So if you're ever in York, I'd recommend a visit! They also have a shop in Hebden Bridge.

You can buy these products at The Yorkshire Soap Company shops or on their website.

LuLin Tea Review

Hello!

So our second YouTube video went up today, in which we are reviewing some lovely teas sent to us by LuLin, a York-based company that specialises in Chinese and Loose Leaf Teas. Here is that review, and a couple of close ups of the products...

The teas were fabulous and we really enjoyed filming for this video!

(Information below is taken from www.lulin-teas.com)

Posh Earl Grey: A LuLin Teas take on the English favourite Earl Grey. LuLin Teas have added bright blue corn flowers and zesty orange flowers to create our wonderful Posh Earl Grey Blend. Add a slice of lemon, drink with milk or keep it black for three very different taste sensations.

Lapsang Souchong: The strong smoky scent absorbs you without overwhelming the palate allowing you to enjoy the sweetness the base tea possessed prior to being pine smoked.

Ginseng Oolong: It is made by rolling Oolong leaves into tight balls and coating them in a thin layer of ginseng and liquorice grass. When brewed it is fairly sweet and has a hint of liquorice.

Have you tried any teas from LuLin? We'd love to hear what you think!

If not, leave us a comment (or tweet us @LucyArtley or @LucieClark) suggesting some more teas for us, as we said in the video, we're from Yorkshire, so it's only natural for us to love tea!

Two fairs in one day?!?

So as well as filming our first two videos on Sunday (Lu Lin tea review coming soon!), we also went to a couple of fairs.

Both are fairs that we have visited before, and it's always nice to see some of the regular stalls that attend, and it's great to see some new faces too! The first fair we visited was the From Yorkshire with Love fair, hosted by Now and Then Events.  This fair focuses independently run businesses in the York area, and promotes the hidden talents in Yorkshire. There fair will be your cup of tea if you're into cute crafty jewellery, homeware and gifts, and baked goods! And there are some great workshops you can take part in, check out the pictures below:

There were some lovely stalls and Lucie decided to treat herself to this print of the ruins of St. Mary's Abbey:

We also visited The York Vintage Fair, which will be much more up your street if you're seriously into your vintage clothes. You best have your rummaging head on, because there's lots to look through! Unfortunately we were unable to get some pictures, due to the venue being very busy, and not being able to get a good view of all the action! However, we do have a picture of their lovely flyer!

Coming up this weekend is the York Does Vintage fair, which you can find in the Merchant Adventurers Hall on Sunday! If you're in York it's definitely worth a visit.

Do you have a favourite vintage fair? Leave us a comment or Tweet us @lucykristina or @lucieclark!

Oops...another haul!

Hello!

So I kind of accidentally went back into town this week, but in my defence I did get exactly what I was looking for. I won't hang about and we'll just get straight into what I bought:

Dress- Bliss,  £8
Skater skirt- H&M,  £12.99

2 strand necklace- New Look,  £3
Midi Skirt- New Look,  £7.99
Filer- Paperchase, £7
Long Vest- H&M,  £3.99
Joni Jeans- TopShop, £36 (but got student discount!)

Peplum Top- New Look, £9.99
Rose Gold Skull T-Bar- TopShop,  £1.50 (got  student discount!)
Snood- TopShop, £8 in sale (got student discount!)
So yeah, I have pretty much topped my wardrobe up for this season, I was lusting after a midi skirt after Sam wore one on a night out. And I just had to try on the Joni jeans after ThePersianBabe talked about them in her latest video. I had no intention to buy them, but I put them on and there was this kind of 'aaaaah' moment (think angels singing, light from the sky and all that) and I found myself carrying them to the till. I do not regret it, these jeans make me feel good, and anything that makes you feel good is worth the pennies.

The filer looks a bit random in this haul, but I have been meaning to get one for my desk at work. Until now I have been propping bits up between my bosses in tray and a stack of post-its, and it just wasn't very practical. Yes £7 is quite a lot, but it's an extra wide one, and I doubt it's going to fall apart any time soon, it better bloody not anyway!

Anyway, there we have it, I might try and do a few more OOTD's and OOTN's with my new purchases, and because I seem to be making more of an effort at the moment!

So, until next time...

A Valentine's Day Haul

Hello!
Happy Valentine's Day for yesterday everyone, I hope you all had a lovely day!
As I had no significant other to treat, I decided to treat myself to a couple bits and pieces from town.
So my first stop was Boots:

I grabbed a couple of haircare bits that were on offer. The L'Oreal Ever Pure Serum was in the clearance for some reason, and was £3.49, (should have been £6.99), so naturally I bought 2. And then Batiste was on 3 for 2, so I got 3 massive cans that were £4.99 each, they will probably last me about 6 months.

Moving on to skincare. I have wanted to try nose strips for ages so while I was splurging I thought they were worth a purchase. I think these were £4.99, I will review them once I have tried them out. I also needed a new exfoliator and these were on 2 for £5, I normally use Simple but that wasn't on offer! So I will see how I go with this, I am pleased to see it's oil free.

Last in Boots, make up. I think I must have been living in a cave, because I had no idea about this stuff, but my sister informs me it's been out a while. I am a huge fan of Rimmel Stay Matte, but the fact that this is supposed to help your skin drew me to it. I am currently using a silk finish powder, it's ok but I miss my Rimmel so I hope this is just as good! I can't remember how much it was, but I am sure it was less than £5.

Then we headed over to Boyes, I am pretty sure this is just a northern chain. Basically it sells a bit of everything, from haberdashery to DIY. I normally just go in there for fabric and things, and I went with the intention to buy some blackout curtains. I am a bit of a vampire, I like to sleep in a cave, summer is a pain to me because I wake up as soon as it gets light! Anyway, that is beside the point, I got the curtains, and another couple of bits:

I have a bit of a sock obsession. I love nothing more than a good chunky sock. At the moment I am living in my military boots, this weather is too unpredictable for anything else. So I got a 3 pack of lovely chunky knitted socks, I thought at £4.25 they were pretty reasonable, last time I bought chunky socks in Primark they were £1.50 a pair. And then my mum treated me to some new bed socks, not very exciting I know, but my flat is FREEZING, and I always have cold feet. So to get some socks that are 2.3 tog, (togs like duvets), is pretty exciting to me, and holy hell are they warm! I think that's the best £6.50 anyone has ever spent on me. Ever.

Last stop was New Look:

I already have these jeans in navy, and I love them with a passion, so when I saw this pair with 25% off I just couldn't resist. They worked out around £17 and I can't wait to start wearing them! They are so comfy and soft and I love anything high waisted so they are perfect for me.

So there we have it. I have been avoiding going into town for ages so I didn't spend any money, so this was a while coming!
I hope everyone has a fab weekend! Until next time...

A very quick tip!

Hello!

I know this should have been up yesterday, but anyone who follows me on Facebook will know I have been in the wars again, and yes, it was self inflicted. I seem to be going out and doing more now than when I was a student, and I am loving it!

Anyway to my tip, which, you may call gross but I don't care. I have a big thing about only washing my hair twice a week, I used to do it every day and it dried the hell out of it, so now I am strict. Anyway, I work in a graphics studio and often find myself 'twiddling' my hair when thinking, (don't ask, it's something I have done for a long time, and my dad still twiddles my hair!). That often leaves me with a greasy 'fringe' area. Obviously I can't just ignore that, so I wash my hair Batiste style. Normally people spray dry shampoo in and brush it straight out as a quick freshen up, and that works fine! But I have other methods...

Basically, before I go to bed I spray my hair until it's white, (only the area that is greasy), plait my hair, and go to bed. By morning the white is gone and my hair is refreshed! Pretty neat huh! It doesn't seem to be drying it out, but I do seem to have pretty 'hard' hair, there's not much that upsets it.

Let me know if you do this, because I am pretty sure my flatmate thinks I am a bit mad haha!

Anyway, I have no pictures of my with white hair, (and even if I did I don't think I would post them!), so instead here is a picture of me before a recent night out. I am wearing my flatmate Sam's top and my H&M shorts, New Look leggings, and you can't see but my H&M Flatforms.

Anyway, I am going to do some work on my work blog now, so until next time...

A little knitting project...

Baby Moccasins!
Hello!

I know this post is a couple of days late, sorry! I am still finding my feet again and my inspiration. So please be patient with me!

In the mean time I have been working on a knitting project. I know a couple of lovely ladies that are expecting babies in the near (and not-so-near) future, so have started working on some gifts. This is my first knitting project of the year, and I am pretty pleased. I used two different knitting patterns to create these little moccasin boots, both of which can be found on my Pinterest

If you have undertaken any knitting projects I would love to see them!

So until next time...

(Also I am trying out a new layout for my posts, let me know what you think!)

(OOTN) Crazy Nights and Snap Decisions

Hello!

Yes, yes, I know this post was meant to be up two days ago, my bad. Sunday night turned out to be quite a random one, more on that later!

If I am quite honest I am really struggling for inspiration for what to write about at the moment, and as the blog has been dormant for a while, I have no posts tucked away for a rainy day. I don't know why nothing is coming to me, maybe it's because I now blog at work too, so my brain is quite full! I am sure I will get back into it soon.

In the mean time I have a little OOTN for you. On Friday night we went out for some yummy food and some cocktails at Slug and Lettuce and watched the snow get deeper and deeper! What happened later in the night involved snow angels and being rather childish, but this is what I looked like before I got covered in snow, (sorry it's not the best quality picture!).

Velvet Jacket: Select
Dress: Browns
Leggings: New Look
Ankle Wellies: Vivienne Westwood
Socks: Primark
Necklace: was my sisters

This weekend was full of good intentions, but the weather got in the way, and then so did my mood. But in my little spell of Debby Downer, I made a snap decision, and this is what happened...

My hair kind of turned purply red! I am in love with it! I mean, I did like the orange, but I have wanted to go purple for so long, and it just took a bit of a bad mood for me to dare to make the change. My sister also straightened my hair, a very rare occasion, but I do like it now, I used to hate it!

Anyway, I don't really have that much else to say, apart from, if you're thinking about making a change, do it, it really makes you feel better :)

Until next time...

A Tragus related revelation!

So, anyone who knows me personally will know I have wanted my Tragus pierced for a looooong time! However, I don't know whether it's because I have had my ears pinned back or not, but I have tiny Tragus' (or Tragi, or whatever the plural of Tragus is!). This has left me disappointed, and instead I have turned to planning one or two (or four!) tattoos.

Anyway, I digress. I just happened to be browsing around on Facebook, which is what most nights consist of, and I came across  Junkitlove and all of a sudden, an answer to my Tragus related problems appeared:

TRAGUS CUFFS! Oh my gosh I can't even tell you how excited I was when I saw this! So excited in fact that I messaged Donna, the creator of these goodies, via her Facebook to tell her how wonderful her creations are! A Tragus Cuff costs £6 including delivery, which I think is incredibly reasonable for something handmade and so damn unique. I checked Amazon to see if I had just overlooked something that has been around for ages, but nope, not a Tragus Cuff in sight!

These beauties are not the only things that Donna makes, she also makes nose cuffs, ear cuffs, other jewellery, beautiful glasswork, and some um, lets say more specialist items. Please check out her Facebook for more photos and her full portfolio. Here are some of my favourites:

A beautiful Goddess

I could go on all day about how excited I am for Tragus Cuffs, but I think you already get the picture! I think these are great for people scared of the pain of piercing, or you young'uns whose parents can still tell you 'no'!

One more plug for good measure! You really should go check out Junkitlove for unique, lovely handmade things, go, go now!

I'm back! (again...)

Hello!

Long time no speak!

So after many a Facebook post telling you eventually I will be back, here I am! As you can see the blog has had a bit of a makeover, or make-under as the case may be. I just wanted to make things simpler and cleaner. I hope you like it!

So talking about keeping things simple, I am going to make my blog a simpler task for me. I plan on posting twice a week for now, until I full figure out my routine. I do have Youtube to fit in as well, but baby steps first. I am of the belief if you shake up your routine too much, you will just get confused and give up completely. So the blog will become routine first, and then the Youtube. I even do this with my beauty routine. I got out of the habit of doing things I should be doing, such as using BioOil, but I know if I make my routine 20 times more complicated straight away, I will abandon it and end up doing nothing, and that doesn't achieve anything!

So a few things have changed, and if you have been keeping up with me on Facebook you will know I have moved flat, changed jobs and have had a few personal life changes.

I am now living with my best friend and sister, and we're loving it. This afternoon has been girly-tastic (which is the general theme of the entire flat!). We've done our nails, and now we're sharing make-up tips. I have just taken a break to write this!

My 'little mermaid' nails
On the job front I am now self employed again. This time I am working with a brilliant design agency as a social media manager. How cool is that? I get to blog and tweet and Facebook at work! I will be becoming the studio manager (eek!) once I have done my exam in Feb, (wish me luck). Anyway, it's great, I work with a great team in a great environment and I am very very happy!

So yeah, this year is my year. I am going to embrace all the changes, find the good in everything and I AM going to be healthier! When I say healthier I don't just mean food wise, I mean my mind too. I will talk more about this in a future post.

So yeah, I won't let this turn into a rambly post. I just hope you're all keeping well and enjoying what 2013 is bringing you.

On another note, I would love to know what you would like to see from this blog. I am trying to think of interesting things to post about and am drawing a blank, so I would love to hear from you!

I think my next post will be Thursday, so see you then!
